If I hear one more time that there is nothing to do, I think I will scream! What do you mean there is nothing to do? There is ALWAYS something to "do." When I think of my own to do list and how it seems to grow daily, it's easy to become overwhelmed.
1) Call the orthodontist, Michael's bracket came loose.
2) Don't forget to take the BBQ home that someone gave me.
3) Deliver the MK Concealer that my friend downstairs ordered.
4) I need to dust my house.
5) I need to vacuum my house.
6) I need to clean my bathrooms.
7) I need to mop my floors.
8) I need to get items together for a yard sale.
9) I need to prepare my SS lesson for Sunday.
10) I need to prepare my Children's Sermon for Sunday.
11) I need to send birthday cards to Furman and Jason.
12) I need to pray for the young man who is struggling with depression.
13) I need to get together with Beth, Sharon, Heidi, Barbara, Jean, Lee & Anne - and so many othners.
14) I need to begin to get things together for our beach trip.
15) I need to exercise.
16) I need to eat better.
17) I need to lose weight.
18) I need to take my medicine regularly.
19) I need to begin to look over my VBS material for the summer.
20) I need to help David get organized with him homework tonight.
What do you mean there is nothing to do?
When my father was visiting a while back, he mentioned a quote he had heard and I'm sure I will butcher it, but the general idea was that American's are entertaining themselves to death. I think that is what is being said when those around me say there is nothing to do. It is as if they are saying, there is nothing happening "for me or to me." They want to be entertained. They are waiting for life to come to them, not making life happen around them. I used to work with a man at the Insurance company who used to say to everyone "Make it a great day!" He would never say, "Have a nice weekend, or Have fun!" He was much more pro-active than that. He wanted you to choose what kind of day or weekend you were going to have. There is a lot to be said for that line of thinking. Just not for me, not today.
