New from East Asia

It was a privilege and joy to have David & Marianne Dean (my nephew and his wife) speak at our church last night! They did an excellent job relating their experiences in East Asia, and their evanglistic and ministry of discipleship on a college campus there.

It is even more joyful to have them staying at our house (thank you Michael for giving up your room)! We hope they have many opportunities to share while they are here. If you are interested in hearing more about their ministry - let me know!

On Friday night I attended a make-up party in Charlotte. My real motive was to catch up with a good friend. She and I met while in the hospital in Charlotte. I felt a connection with Heidi immediately, and it was so good to see her again! There were only three of us (the consultant, Heidi and me) - and our visit became so much more than skin care products. We shared a special time of laughter, sharing, counseling, encouraging, and even tears. On April 5, 2006, Heidi's fiance (a Charlotte police officer), was shot in the head in the line of duty. They did marry, but his brain injury has left him with constant severe pain, fatigue, some cognitive impairment. They have endured the trial of the man who pulled the trigger that day, and so much more. Initially, I remember thinking that nothing I had ever gone through could compare to what she has experienced and continues to experience. Yes, our experiences were vastly different, but we realize that our worst experience is our worst experience - it is the emotion that binds us, not the circumstances (thank you Heidi!). It was great to share about our faith and our view of God. I am so glad that I went, and I am so glad they did not cancel when they realized it would only be me!

Time is short this morning. Thanks for listening!
