I need to take my Valentine's Day decorations down! I see them each night and think, "I really need to take those down." When I got to work this morning there was a hastily written note taped to the paper towel dispenser in our break room, "YES, we can wash our own dishes and put them away." I have been scolding myself about the decorations and now I'm being scolded at work about what dishes I may not have washed and put away. ENOUGH! As a co-worker shared with me, aren't there more important things for us all to worry about.
I do know that I was not as sarcastic when scolding myself as that sign in the breakroom was to those of us who may have fallen down on our kitchen duties. But I am also struck with the fact, that if I had followed through on either "chore" there would be no scolding to take place. In fact the decorations would be put away and so would the dishes!
Is there a lesson here? Sarcastic signs work better than self-reprimand? When you think about something, do it! There are more important things to worry about than dishes and decorations.
